A.     Attendance

Welcome and Call to Order

President Nesbit called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance, Circle K Pledge and Motto were recited.

Introductions

A. 

Treasurer Divjak had nothing to announce.  addivjak@wisc.edu

 

Secretary Johnson sent around service binder and attendance.  mljohnson9@wisc.edu

 

Vice President Fitzgerald announced that she ordered t-shirts last week, she ordered extra, so if you didnt get your name on the list, you can still get one once they arrive.   mkfitzgerald@wisc.edu  

 

President Nesbit  passed around our one copy of Circle K International Magazine.  It has a picture of our old                         advisor, Janet at her wedding!!  Membership cards for those who havent picked them up yet are on the                    back table.  Also, on the back table are personal Thank You notes to all the members who helped out at the    Emerson Elementary for Science Night.  alnesbit@wisc.edu

Kiwanis:  There were no Kiwanians in attendance today.  Shelley came for the e-board meeting, but did not make it in time for the club meeting.    

III.   Club Officer Nominations

            Treasurer:  There were no nominations for treasurer

            Secretary:  Alex Means was nominated by Katie Hipke and seconded by Julie Weidner

            Vice-President: Julie Weidner was nominated by Alex Means and seconded by Katie Hipke

            President:  Katy Wheeler was nominated by Kelly Vis and seconded by Kari Dabbert

IV.   Old Business

a.  Making dinner for the Ronald McDonald House

On Monday, Feb 16, we made dinner at the Ronald McDonald House.  Five members went and cooked up a delicious chicken and broccoli casserole.  Only about 5 residents came down to eat, but the left-overs were saved for a later meal. 

            b.  Pen Pals at Lincoln Elementary

            At last weeks meeting we made Valentines Day cards for our new pen pals at Lincoln Elementary.  They will be        writing us back sometime soon!!

 c.  Horror Movie Social

            Kelly and Katy hosted a movie night at there house on Friday, Feb 13.  Unfortunately, no other club members             were in the mood for a movie night.  They will be hosting another one sometime soon!!       

d.  Humane Society Volunteers

            Laura Ramsey went to volunteer training at the Humane Society yesterday.  If you are interested in volunteering             there, talk to her for more information

            e.  Winter Weekend Getaway

            A couple members made the trip up to the UP last weekend for Winter Weekend Getaway.  Nicole Schulist tried             to do some sledding, but the hill was a little too treacherous for her, so she spent the afternoon looking at ice             sculptures!

IV.  Current Business

a.  Bucky Book Fundraiser

Bucky Books are here!  We will be selling Bucky Books for $35 dollars each.  If you are interested in purchasing one, or selling them, you can check out however many you want from Andrea.   Our club gets $12 for each book sold.  The money will go to the service account, so hours spent selling them can count as service hours. 

b. Making Puppets for the RSVP puppet show

During the meeting, the members cut out bird heads for the RSVP puppet show. 

c.  UW-Oshkosh Charter Party

UW-Oshkosh will be hosting a Charter Party on Saturday, February 21.  It will be a dinner from 6-8pmthe cost is 10-15 dollars.  If you are interested in going, you have to RSVP by Friday, Feb 13.  Andrea and Kelly are planning on attending, so let them know if you want to go.  They are trying to get 4 people to attend so it will count as an interclub (which occurs when four or more people from one club attend another clubs activities..it works with both other circle ks as well as other members of the k family)

d.  Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge will be on Sat. Feb 21 at noon at Olin Park.  If you want to jump, you have to register by Feb. 6.  Kelly is planning to jump and is registering this Friday night. If you are interested in jumping as well, email Kelly at knvis@wisc.edu.  To volunteer, you can either contact Megan or register to volunteer on your own on your website.

e.  3rd Capital Division Rally 

Monica will be hosting her third and final Capital Division Rally on Sat. Feb 21 in Whitewater.  The service project will be assembling I am Special Books the social will be a game-a-thon, and the workshop will be creating decopage picture frames.  It will take place from 11am -2:30.  RSVP by Fri. Feb 20 to Monica, masiebers@wisc.edu

f.  WE will be running the Kiwanis Meeting

On Monday Feb. 23 we will be running the Kiwanis meeting.  We need a number of members to help out, so if you are available from 11:30 until 1:20, think about coming and helping.  There will be a presentation and slide show about Circle K. 

g.  Basketball Concessions

There are two more basketball games left, but there are people signed up for them already. Thanks to everyone who helped fill these spots all year!! 

h.  Even Start Dr Suess Birthday Party

Even Start has asked us to do a club skit again, like we did for the Sneetches last year.  We can do any Dr. Seuss book we want.  Today, the club expressed an interest in doing The Lorax, but if you have any ideas, feel free to pass them on.  The skit will be on Tues. Mar 2 at around 5:30.  Kelly and Megan will be meeting next Tuesday to plan the skit.  Look for an email from Megan for more information. 

i.  Club Vote

We will be voting for new officers on Wednesday, March 3.  PLEASE come to this meeting and put in your vote for our leadership for next year.  Not only is it important that you get to have input in the decision, but we need at least 29 people there to conduct the vote.

j.  Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is asking for our help to sell tickets for a raffle they are holding at the Home Improvement Show at the Alliant Energy Center from Fri Mar5 through Sun. March 7.  The shifts run from about 9:45 until 7 and are two hours long.  If you are interested, let Andrea know and she can give you the contact info for BBBS.

k.  WYSO Ushers

The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra is holding a concert at Mill Hall (at Humanities) on Saturday and Sunday March 6th and 7th.  They need ushers on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon for four hour shifts.  Each person will get paid $6/hour, which will go to the clubs service account.  Contact Andrea for more information  

l.  Aldo Leopald Nature Center Maple Syrup Fest

The Nature Center needs volunteers to serve ice cream and help with parking at this annual event.  It takes place n Sun. March 14 from 1-3, so if you are going to be around Madison for Spring Break, consider volunteering.  They are looking for two more volunteers to help with parking, so if you are going to be around Madison for Spring Break, consider helping out. 

m.  District Convention!!  (Wisconsin-Upper Michigan) March 19-21.

            This weekend represents the culmination of a year in Circle K.  It is a ton of fun and a great way to meet other                         Circle Kers.  The weekend involves games and fun, as well as some business.  The task of convention is to vote             for new district officers and to give out awards for the past year. 

            WHERE:  Wintergreen Resort, Wisconsin Dells

            THEME:  Service Olympics

            COST: Registration is $75.  Kiwanis has provided $780 which will be divided amongst all those who attend.              Each hotel room houses four people and costs $25.93 per person per night.

V.  New Business

            a.  Bingo at Independent Living Center

            We will be going to the Independent Living Center on Wednesday, Feb 25 at 3:30 to play Bingo and give out the       pots from the YWCA outing for prizes.  We will be there until about 5 or 5:30.  Look for a sign up at a later             meeting.

            b.  Bake Cookies for Wilmar

            Its Wilmar time again, and that means COOKIES!  We will be baking cookies on Friday afternoon, Feb. 27 at             4:30 at Katy and Kellys apartment (626 Landon #305).  It only takes a couple hours, so if you are interested in             baking, stop by!

            c.  Wilmar

            We will be helping the Kiwanians serve lunch at the Wilmar Neighborhood Center on Sat, Feb 28 from 10:30             until 1.  Sign up at next weeks meeting if you are interested in helping.

d.  WPT Pledge Drive

            On March 7 from 8:30 until 12:45 we are signed up for another shift at the Wisconsin Public Television Pledge             Drive.  This takes place right here on campus at Vilas Hall.  We need ten volunteers to work the shift, so keep that      morning free!!

            e.  Tri K Service Day

            Tri K Service Day will be held in Milwaukee on Sat.  March 13.  This event was a lot of fun last year, and is a             great way to meet people from around the district.  This is the first weekend of Spring Break, so if you are going    to be in the Milwaukee area, you should check it out. 

            f.  Canoecopia

            Also the first weekend of spring break, on March 12-14th, the Kiwanians could use help selling raffle tickets at                         Canoecopia for someone to win the canoe they built.  If you are interested in helping out for a shift, contact             Andrea.           

            l.  Blood Drive to Break the Record

            On April 2, there will be a blood drive held in an attempt to break the Guinness record for the most blood             donated            in one day.  They will need volunteers to help out, as well as a ton of people to donate!

X.  Member Questions about events or anything?

Easter Seals MailingsMonica will be sending an email about helping prepare a mailer for the Easter Seals sometime next weekwatch for that!

Oakwood Senior Citizens Home

Volunteers are needed to take Oakwood residents to church and back on Sunday mornings.   They are needed from 10:30 until 12:30.   If you are interested in helping out, you can get more information from Andrea
