Welcome and Call to Order

President Nesbit called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance, Circle K Pledge and Motto were recited.

           

Introductions

Kiwanis:  Shelly, our Kiwanis advisor, and Stan, Circle K District Administrator, were both in attendance. 

 

      Guests: Many guests were in attendance for buddy or a buck

III.  What is Circle K?  How can I fit into this?

LTG Monica explained a little bit about the structure of Circle K International.  Everyone present at the meeting indicated that they already had some knowledge of how the organization is set up. 

IV.  Past and Future Service, Social, District or Divisional Events

a.  YWCA Fun With Science Night

On Thursday, Feb 5, we will be going to the YWCA to help the kids pot plants in the pots they made at our kick-off service projects.  The pots will be used as prizes for Bingo at a senior citizens home later in the year.  The kids will also be making Terrariums in two liter soda bottles, so if you have any, save them.  Katy is unable to attend, so if you are interested  in going and would like to lead the kids in this activity, email her at wheeliegirl_84@hotmail.com

b.  Kick Off Service Project

On Saturday, February 7, we will be doing another kick-off service project with the YWCA.  The kids will be going to the Civic Center to see a story teller, and the our club will be taking them!  Those going will meet around 11:45 on campus and walk to the YWCA together to pick up the kids at 12:30. 

c.  Making dinner for the Ronald McDonald House

On Monday, Feb 16, we will be making dinner at the Ronald McDonald House.  A maximum of 10 members are needed to help prepare the meal.  It will be served at 6, so we will go earlier than that to prepare the meal.  Look for more details and a sign up at a later date.

d.  Kites on Ice

Kites on Ice takes place on Lake Mendota from Friday Feb 6 through the 8.  There are a number of volunteer opportunites available throughout the weekend.  All volunteers receive a t-shirt, hot chocolate, and a hotdog.  Visit the website at www.madfest.org for more information and to register for a shift.  When you enter the Kites on Ice portion of the website, there is an option on the side panel that says want to volunteer?  Just click that and you will be taken to a form to register.  The person to contact for information is Morgan at 850-4900 or email at globalcelebrations@tds.net. 

e.  Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge will be on Sat. Feb 21 at noon at Olin Park.  If you want to jump, you have to register by Feb. 6.  To volunteer, you can either contact Megan or register to volunteer on your own on your website.

f.  WE will be running the Kiwanis Meeting

On Monday Feb. 16, we will be running the Kiwanis meeting.  We need a number of members to help out, so if you are available from 11:30 until 1:20, think about coming and helping.  There will be a presentation and slide show about Circle K. 

g.  UW-Oshkosh Charter Party

UW-Oshkosh will be hosting a Charter Party on Saturday, February 21.  It will be a dinner from 6-8pmthe cost is 10-15 dollars.  If you are interested in going, you have to RSVP by Friday, Feb 6.  Andrea and Kelly are planning on attending, so let them know if you want to go.  They are trying to get 4 people to attend so it will count as an interclub (which occurs when four or more people from one club attend another clubs activities..it works with both other circle ks as well as other members of the k family)

VII.  Club Dues and Other Announcements

            A.  UW Mens Basketball concession stand work:  all the games have been signed up for already!!

            B.  Club t-shirt money due next week:  $10checks can be made out to UW Madison Circle K       

                        -t-shirts will be black with red writing.

            C.  Scholarship packets due Feb 13th

            D.  2 weeks until club officer nominations.  Feb 18th and 25th  Club Vote will be on March 3.

VII.  District Convention!!  (Wisconsin-Upper Michigan) March 19-21.

            This weekend represents the culmination of a year in Circle K.  It is a ton of fun and a great way to meet other Circle Kers.  The weekend involves games and fun, as well as some business.  The task of convention is to vote for new district officers and to give out awards for the past year. 

            WHERE:  Wintergreen Resort, Wisconsin Dells

            THEME:  Service Olympics

            COST: Registration is $65.  Kiwanis has provided $780 which will be divided amongst all those who attend.  Each hotel room houses four people and costs $25.93 per person per night.

The deadline to register at the $65 rate is January 31.

IX.  Slide Show

            Megan and Angela put together an awesome slide show of the events we have done in the past year.

 

X.  Member Questions about events or anything?

Kelly announced that she and Katy will be hosting a social at their apartment on Friday, February 13.  They will be having a scary movie marathon.  They live in apartment 305 in the Roundhouse.  They will probably begin the marathon at around 6:30. 

XI.       Adjournment

Ms.Nesbit adjourned the meeting at 7:50 pm
