A.     Attendance

Welcome and Call to Order

 

President Nesbit called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance, Circle K Pledge and Motto were recited.

           

Officers, Advisors, Guest Introduction, and Committee Chair report

A. 

Treasurer Divjak   was not in attendance because she was working the basketball game with the Kiwanis addivjak@wisc.edu

 

Secretary Johnson  sent around service binder and attendance. mljohnson9@wisc.edu

 

Vice President Fitzgerald  mkfitzgerald@wisc.edu  

-Sent around a sign up for club t-shirts for $10.  The money is due Feb 11 to Angela.  Checks can be made out to UW Madison Circle K.  The t-shirt design is off of an old circle k shirt from the early 90s. 

-Easter Seals respite camp is having a weekend camp from December 26-30.  If you are interested in volunteering at the camp, contact Megan for more information

B.  Kiwanis:  Nobody from Kiwanis was at the meeting because Shelley had a new job partyHope the new job goes well!! And Stan wasnt able to make it due to the poor road conditions. 

C. Two  members who were included in the raffle didnt receive their prize yet.  Michelle Heiman and Ashlee Mattson both should see Andrea at the next meeting for their prize.

D.  Newsletter Chair, Julie Weidner brought a copy of the November newsletterit will be emailed to the club later.

 

III.  Old Business

            a.  Salvation Army Bell Ringing

A number of members volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army at the Copps on University on Saturday, Dec 6.  The total for the money in their bucket was $297 for the day.  The total for all the buckets manned by Kiwanis clubs was around $7000 for the day. 

b.  Wisconsin Public Television Telethon

5 madison circle kers and 4 members from Eau Claire volunteered at on Sun, Dec 7th from 8:40 until 12:30.  They had a good time answering the phones and making prank calls!

c.  Shopping for Salvation Army Gifts

Seven people went shopping on Monday night to buy gifts for our two Salvation Army families.  Monica made a motion to use a maximum of $150 to buy one of the families a tv, vcr, and some childrens videos.  Megan seconded the motion.  It was unanimously passed by the club.  See current business for more info about xmas for kids

  

IV.  Current Business

a.  Basketball Game Concessions

We need two volunteers to work at every home basketball game.  If you are signed up for a game, please make sure you attend or contact someone to make sure there is a substitute.  To sign up, contact Rose, rlcywinski@wisc.edu.  The next games are Sat. Dec 6 and Wed. Dec 10, Sat. Dec 13 at 11:30 am, Sat. Jan 3 at 11:30 am, Tues, Jan 6 at 5:30 pm, Sat. Jan 9 at 9:30 am.  If you are going to be in Madison over winter break, consider volunteering at one of these games!

b  Christmas for Kids

As was mentioned above, we will be purchasing an additional gift out of club service money for one of the families.  Megan and Julie will be going on Saturday afternoon to buy the tv.  They will then wrap the gifts.  Sara Waly is contacting the families this week to find out when they want the gifts delivered.  If you are interested in helping wrap, email Megan

c.  Scholarships online www.circlek.org

There are a number of scholarships available through Circle K.  There will be an info session about these scholarships after the January 21 meeting.

d.  Holiday in Lights

Holiday in Lights is held at Olin Park from Dec 24-Jan 1.  Volunteers are needed to hand out candy canes in shifts from 4:30-7:30 or 7:30-10.  If you are interested in helping out, contact Andrea to find out which shifts are still available. 

e.  Trip to Topeka, KS

Five of our club members will be road tripping to Kansas from Jan 9-Jan11 to reclaim our mascot from Janet, our old Kiwanis advisor. They will be staying with her in Kansas and then returning to Wisconsin having successfully rescuing the mascot

f.  Do Service over Break!!

g.  Welcome Back Social-Ice Skating at the Shell and Pizza!!

On Sunday, January 25, we will be having a club social!  We will be going to Rocky Roccoco on Regent around 12 or 1 and then walking over to the Shell to ice skate.  Look for more info on this from you social chair, Kelly Vis

h.  Winter Weekend Getaway

Winter Weekend Getaway is a district event up in Houghton Michiganat MTU.  IT is Feb 13-14 and costs $20, which included meals and a cool t-shirt.  Friday night is just a fun K-Family bonding night and Saturday involves a ton of winter funincluding snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, etc.  If you arent into winter sports, there is other stuff to do as well

g.  UW-Oshkosh Charter Party

UW-Oshkosh will be hosting a Charter Party on Saturday, February 21.  It will be a dinner from 6-8pmthe cost is 10-15 dollars.  If you are interested in going, you have to RSVP by Friday, Feb 6.  Andrea and Kelly are planning on attending, so let them know if you want to go.

V.  District Convention!!  (Wisconsin-Upper Michigan) March 19-21.

            This weekend represents the culmination of a year in Circle K.  It is a ton of fun and a great way to meet other Circle Kers.  The weekend involves games and fun, as well as some business.  The task of convention is to vote for new district officers and to give out awards for the past year. 

            WHERE:  Wintergreen Resort, Wisconsin Dells

            THEME:  Service Olympics

            COST: Registration is $65.  Kiwanis has provided $780 which will be divided amongst all those who attend.  Each hotel room houses four people and costs $25.93 per person per night.

The deadline to register at the $65 rate is January 31. 

VI.  Member Questions about events or anything?

            News from our LTG and club member, Monica Siebers!

                        1.  Rally in Platteville on January 31.  The service project will be making fleece blankets for the cuddles project, workshop will be personality/leadership typing, and the social may be sledding, but that isnt definite yet

                        2.  Rally in Whitewater on February 21 in the early afternoon.  The service project is yet to be determined, but will have something to do with kids, the social will be Karaoke.

                        3. Rally in Waukesha on Jan 4

                        4.  New District Board Special Events Chairour very own Nicole Schulist!! Congratualations Nicole!!

            Announcement from Fundraising Chair, Rose

                        We missed the deadline to sell Bucky Books this semester, but next semester we can have the opportunity to make a $10 profit per book from Feb.-April. 

            Thank you Note from Youth Walk

                        We donated money to the Dane County Youth Walk, and just received a thank you note.  They mentioned that if any club members would like to go to local youth groups to market the walk, to let them know, so if you are interested, talk to Andrea to get in touch with Dave Sharpe

            New Club Officers

                        We need to have new club officers elected by convention in March, which means the nomination process will begin in February.  Start thinking about whether you would be interested in running for any positions.  All the existing officers would be happy to talk to you about their position and give you the inside scoop on exactly what it takes, So feel free to get in touch with any of us if you have any questions!

VII.  Happy Thoughts/Question of the Week

What is your favorite holiday movie?

      Money in the Happy Thoughts jar goes to the Tomorrow Fund.
