Welcome and Call to Order

 

President Nesbit called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance, Circle K Pledge and Motto were recited.

-Scrapbook committee is starting to collect pictures for the club scrapbookif you have any pictures from this years events, please give them to Katie Hipke

-Club t-shirts will be on sale for $10.  The money is due Feb 11 to Angela.  Checks can be made out to UW Madison Circle K.  The t-shirt design is off of an old circle k shirt from the early 90s.

B.  Kiwanis:  Shelley announced an opportunity to speak about the clubs project planning skills at a leadership workshop.  Also, Andrea will be attending the Kiwanis Meeting on Monday at 11:45 until 1 at First Methodist Church.  If you are interested in going along for a delicious free lunch and an opportunity to hear a speaker about prisoner reintegration, let Andrea know.  In addition, the January 19 Kiwanis meeting will be held at Bethel Lutheran instead of First Methodist   

C. Two  members who were included in the raffle didnt receive their prize yet.  Michelle Heiman and Ashlee Mattson both should see Andrea at the next meeting for their prize.

 

III.  Old Business

            a.  Salvation Army Bell Ringing

A number of members volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army at the Copps on University on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22.  They received a lot of donations and had a good time!

            b.  Cookies for Wilmar and Serving at Wilmar

            Katy, Sarah, and Matt baked cookies on Friday to take to Wilmar. It took 4 hours because they baked a ton of             cookies!  It was a good thing too, because on Saturday they ran out of food at Wilmar so people had to fill up on             cookies!!

            c.  Basketball Concessions

            Everyone who has worked concessions with Kiwanis has had a great time serving ice cream!  Think about signing             up for a shift or two in the upcoming months!

           

IV.  Current Business

a.  Salvation Army Bell Ringing

            We will be ringing bells again on Saturday, Dec. 6  The shifts are for two people and are in two hour increments from 8am until 8pm.  The club has done a great job volunteering to fill these times.  If you are interested in volunteering, but dont know how to get there, have no fear!  The #2 bus runs right to the store!  If you are interested in ringing bells on your own, visit ringbells.org to get more info about signing up for individual time slots in a number of locations

b.  Basketball Game Concessions

We need two volunteers to work at every home basketball game.  If you are signed up for a game, please make sure you attend or contact someone to make sure there is a substitute.  To sign up, contact Rose, rlcywinski@wisc.edu.  The next games are Sat. Dec 6 and Wed. Dec 10, Sat. Dec 13 at 11:30 am, Sat. Jan 3 at 11:30 am, Tues, Jan 6 at 5:30 pm, Sat. Jan 9 at 9:30 am.  If you are going to be in Madison over winter break, consider volunteering at one of these games!

c.  Wisconsin Public Television Telethon

            WPT needs help with the telethon on Sun, Dec 7th from 8:40 until 12:30.  UW Eau Claire will be coming to volunteer with us and get their mascot back, which we won in the auction at MAC.  There is free food at WPT and the club will be going out for dessert with UWEC afterwards.  The telethon is held at Vilas hall, and can be accessed from Park street.  There will be a large sign directing you to the studio.

d  Christmas for Kids

Christmas for Kids involves raises money to buy gifts for a family at the Salvation Army. The Heidemanns, a couple in the Kiwanis club, have donated $250 dollars to our club to buy the gifts.  More information about how you can be involved in this are to follow.  The website to visit to read more about it is www.sit.wisc.edu/~c4k/

We will be buying presents for two families.  Sara Waly has taken charge of this project and is planning to go shopping on Monday, Dec 8 for the presents.  Katie Hipke has offered to drive.  If you are interested in going along, email Sara at sgwaly@wisc.edu

e.  Scholarships online www.circlek.org

There are a number of scholarships available through Circle K.  There will be an info session about these scholarships after the January 21 meeting.

f.  Northwoods Division Rally at UW Green Bay

This rally is on Dec 13 from 1-5.  The service portion will include painting and playing games at the Preble House.  There will then be a workshop at UW Green Bay.  There will be food provided.  If you are interested in going, contact Andrea by Monday to RSVP. 

g.  Holiday in Lights

Holiday in Lights is held at Olin Park from Dec 24-Jan 1.  Volunteers are needed to hand out candy canes in shifts from 4:30-7:30 or 7:30-10.  If you are interested in helping out, contact Andrea to find out which shifts are still available. 

h.  Trip to Topeka, KS

Five of our club members will be road tripping to Kansas from Jan 9-Jan11 to reclaim our mascot from Janet, our old Kiwanis advisor. They will be staying with her in Kansas and then returning to Wisconsin having successfully rescuing the mascot

V.  District Convention!!  (Wisconsin-Upper Michigan) March 19-21.

            This weekend represents the culmination of a year in Circle K.  It is a ton of fun and a great way to meet other Circle Kers.  The weekend involves games and fun, as well as some business.  The task of convention is to vote for new district officers and to give out awards for the past year. 

            WHERE:  Wintergreen Resort, Wisconsin Dells

            THEME:  Service Olympics

            COST: Registration is $65.  Kiwanis has provided $780 which will be divided amongst all those who attend.  Each hotel room houses four people and costs $25.93 per person per night.

The deadline to register at the $65 rate is January 31.

      Money in the Happy Thoughts jar goes to the Tomorrow Fund.
