A. Attendance
11 members, 2 advisors and 18 new prospective members. Also see the Attendance Excel File, a copy of which is on file with the minutes.
Welcome and Call to Order
President Nesbit called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.
The Pledge of Allegiance, Circle K Pledge and Motto were recited.
Officers, Advisors, Guest Introduction, and Committee Chair report
Treasurer Divjak reported that dues for this year will be $12.50 for the first 40 members. The first 5 new members to pay will receive a UW Madison pencil!! Checks for the dues can be made out to UW Madison Circle K and can be brought to any meeting! addivjak@wisc.edu
Secretary Johnson passed around attendance. And asked everyone to fill out new service hour sheets.. mljohnson9@wisc.edu
Vice President Fitzgerald announced that there will be committee meetings coming up in the next few weeks for service, social and homecoming float committees

1. District K Family/Outreach Committee: if you would like to become more involved in Circle K on the district level, this could be a good way! See Andrea for the committee chairs email address if you are interested in serving on this committee
2. District Convention T-shirt Designs: ideas for the convention t-shirt are due no later than Oct 4
3. W-UM Service Olympics.
Bronze: 50 service hours and one district or international event
Silver:
Gold: 150 service hours and 5 district or international events
Awards will be given at convention for those who reach a level in the service Olympics
B. Stan invited everyone to the Monday Kiwanis Meetings. Meet in front of UW bookstore at 11:30 if you want to go along.
C. Social Chair Kelly VIs: 3 meeting raffle prize for new meetings who attend all of the first three meetings. Drawing will be held for a $20 Steve and Barrys gift certificateeveryone who is entered will receive some sort of circle k fun prize!! Also, there will be a social committee meeting before next weeks meeting
Service Chair Katy Wheeler:
1. Troy Gardens: need volunteers to help with their 5 acres of prairie land and 5 acres of community gardens. Saturday, October 25 they will be mulching, weeding, etc. There will also be a pot luck picnic lunch!
2. Also, October 25 is Make a Difference Day which is a national community service project day
3. Big Brothers/Big Sisters School pals: mentors would be paired up with kids at school who dont have a full time Big Brother/Sister
Old Business
a. Ironman Triathlon: Megan, Angela, and Monica all helped at the triathlon. They received cool t-shirts and got to see all the athletes! Monica worked at an aid station and spent the day passing out water and soda to the runners.
b. Leaderscape: Kelly Vis attended Leaderscape last weekend. She had a good time and learned a lot from the speaker.
IV. Current Business
a. Old member/new member buddies: We paired up old members with new members and got to know each other a little bit
b. Outing w/ YWCA kids
Katy would like to plan a service project for Sunday, September 21 w/ the YWCA kids. We will take them to James Madison Park to play games and paint flower pots. These flower pots will then be taken to Independent Living and given to the residents there. Monica suggested maybe taking them to a bingo night and giving them away as prizes. c. District Fundraiser
The district will be holding a car wash on Sun Sept 21 in both Stevens Point and Sheboygan. The money raised will go to Camp Baycliff. Monica will be attending the event in Stevent Point so she could give people a ride home, but not there.
d. Cookies for Wilmar
We will bake cookies to take to Wilmar at 4:30 on Friday, Sept 26 at Katy and Kellys apartment. The address is 626 Langdon, apt # 305. It is the big round building on Langdon right on the edge of campus.
e. Wil-mar Community Center
Every 4th Sat. of the month, the Kiwanis club serves lunch here. On Saturday, September 27 we can help out starting at 10. Usually this lasts until about 1. It is a lot of fun preparing and serving lunch with the Kiwanians.
f. Governors Rally
Justin will be holding a rally in Cudahy on Sat. Sept 27. It will include volunteering at a nursing home and then enjoying dinner at Old Country Buffet. Kelly is going and she can take 4 more people in her car. If you are interested, contact Kelly at knvis@wisc.edu
g. AIDS Walk
The AIDS walk will be on Saturday, Sept 27 at Olin Turville Park from 9am-noon. We will be helping along the walk route.
New Business
a. Our clubs 21st Birthday Party-Kocktails with Kiwanis
We will be celebrating our 21st year as a club with a party at the MARC center. It will be at 2pm on Sunday, Sept.28. Before the pizza and cocktails are brought out, we will be helping to lay some mulch around the grounds.
b. Homecoming Clean-up
There will be a campus clean-up starting at library mall on Friday, September 10 from 10:30 until 12. If you are interested in helping out, email Katie Hipke at krhipke@wisc.edu or talk to her at next weeks meeting.
c. MAC
MAC will be October 10-12 at Camp Wawbeek and the theme is Olympic Training. The cost is $15 dollars. On Friday night we will be playing mini golf in the dells. On Saturday there will be a service project to close the camp for winter and then a few workshops. Saturday night is the auction and the weekend wraps up on Sunday morning. There will definitely be a car going home on Saturday for the big game, so dont let that stop you from attending this fun filled weekend!
d. Float in Homecoming Parade
A sign-up sheet was passed around to find out how many people would be interested in helping to make a circle k float for the homecoming parade. One of the Kiwanians has volunteered the use of his truck and they are still working on providing a place for us to build it. There will be a quick meeting to discuss ideas after next weeks meeting for those interested in helping. The homecoming parade is on Friday, October 17th.
e. Division Service Project
Monica is planning a division service project on Sunday, October 26th in the late morning/early afternoon in Platteville. More info will be provided later!
f. Easter Seals Telethon
The easter seals telethon will be held from 3-6 pm on Sunday, October 26th. They need 18 people to work the phone bank and you will be televised on FOX 47. Dont worryeven though this is the same day as the division service project, you can still do both!!

Today we went for tradition and all told a happy thought.
Money in the Happy Thoughts jar goes to the Tomorrow Fund.
Angela did an excellent job explaining the tomorrow fund!!
